So Marvel just announced its Phase 3 lineup, and it is nothing short of epic. You can Google it or YouTube it if you want. Here's a breakdown of my opinion on each of the movies:
Captain America: Civil War (May 6, 2016)
I love the story arc in the comics, but I am not sure there are enough characters for a large scale civil war at the level that the comics delivered. Still, it is a risky story to bring to the big screen and with rumors that everybody's favorite Iron Man is the villain here, it will turn some heads.
Doctor Strange (November 4, 2016)
A newcomer to the cinematic universe, I am not sure how well a sorcerer can fit into a world where we already have amazing technology and, by this point, a solid universe beyond Earth. Yes, he's a badass. And yes, people love his comic book stories. But I feel he may be inconsistent with a world that was established without the slightest hint of magic present.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (May 5, 2017)
I loved the first one. Everybody I know loved it. There are no details on the plot yet, which leads me to speculate that it may be an Annihilation-based story that would have to deal with the consequences of Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. Maybe they jettison Ultron to space and the Guardians end up fighting him?
Thor: Ragnarok (July 28, 2017)
Thor is, at the time of writing, my least favorite Marvel character with his own movie. Dusting off my mythology knowledge, I can safely say that Ragnarok is the Norse version of Armageddon, the final battle between good and evil in which Thor dies killing a giant world-ending monster. So do they have the guts to kill Thor off?
Black Panther (November 3, 2017)
Here's a character I'm not familiar with, except that he looks like he designed a costume that's between Batman and Night Owl from Watchmen. And that he's a prince from a fictional African kingdom. The good news is that it might not be an origins story since this character will appear in the Civil War movie.
Captain Marvel (July 6, 2018)
The first female character Marvel introduces in her own movie. And while it could devolve into fan service (I'm looking at you, Black Widow!) I hope they make this movie a strong movie that can stand alone. Captain Marvel is a weird character, which you may expect to make an appearance in an earlier movie.
Inhumans (November 2, 2018)
Basically the cosmic equivalent of the X-Men. I have heard of them but I'm not too familiar with them. They'll probably show up in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 or Captain Marvel.
Avengers: Infinity War (May 2018 - Part 1, May 2019 - Part 2)
Thanos gets the Infinity stones, Expect every individual and group mentioned above to get together for every fanboy's dream. Holy crap that teaser was sweet.
I notice a glaring absence of any Iron Man movies in Phase 3. Is it possible that they're going to kill off the character or retire him somehow?
